The Marabou Stork:
Yes, it does really look like that and no, that’s not what you think it is. Surprisingly enough, this is a good picture of one of these birds (if you can call them birds). They inhabit Africa south of the Sahara and their name comes from the Arabic word murābit, which translates to something along the lines of ‘hermit-like’ – fitting. Understandably, these creatures are nicknamed the “undertaker bird” because of their dark and hunched appearance, as well as their spindly white legs.

It literally looks like a burn victim. Like seriously. And what’s with the hair on these guys? It’s like they’ve been cursed to live out their life as a horribly aging crypt keeper.
Was this one scalped?? Someone please explain this. Also, I know people always jump on the bandwagon of “awwww it’s so ugly, it’s cute!” But these do NOT fall under that category, because if their ugliness wasn’t already enough, they also have a nasty little habit of snacking on Flamingos.
This is the actual embodiment of a Disney villain. If you want some live action proof, don’t worry, I’ve got that covered too.
So you might ask, is there a point to this blog? No, not really. Just think of it as a little boost to your self-esteem – I mean, at least you don’t have to go through life looking like a middle aged man who tripped and fell into a vat of acid. And if, like me, you can’t tear your eyes away from the bizarrely ugly – like watching a car crash in slow motion – here’s some more charming pictures you’ll enjoy. G’day!
