The Beatles or The White Album as it became better known, was released in November 1968. The band’s ninth studio album and a purposeful departure from their seventh, as noted by The New York Times “a major success” and “far more imaginative” than Sgt. Pepper or Magical Mystery Tour, due to the band’s improved song writing and their relying less on the studio tricks of those earlier works.”
The double album entered worldwide charts at no. 1 and stayed there for many weeks, eventually becoming The Beatles most certified album, 19-times platinum.
