Murder charge laid in connection with 'suspicious' death in Delta, B.C.

WATCH: A 28-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder after another woman’s body was found in a townhome in Delta’s Ladner neighbourhood on Monday.

A murder charge has been laid in the “suspicious” death of a woman in Delta on Monday, confirmed to be a homicide in the early stages of a police investigation.

Preety Teena Kaur Panesar, 28, has been charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody. Delta police confirmed she has a “familial relationship” with the victim.

“The Delta Police Department extends sincere condolences to the Panesar family during this challenging period,” the force said in a Tuesday news release.

“In consideration of the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings, no further details will be disclosed at this time.”

Police cordoned off nearly half of a townhouse complex at 47A Avenue near Garry Street in the Ladner neighbourhood around 5:10 p.m. on Monday.

The victim was found dead inside one of the units and the circumstances immediately deemed suspicious. Police said shortly afterward that the death wasn’t connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
