Yes, this one is obscure, but it deserves to be remembered. The Damned began was one of Britain’s first punk bands in the 70s and were the first to release a record. Over the following years, they took on some Goth trappings. By the time I arrived at CFNY in 1986, they were making music like this with their seventh album, Anything.
I recall playing this track during some of my earliest overnight shifts and frankly, I didn’t know squat about the band back then. I didn’t even know this was a cover by Love, the California psych band that recorded it in 1967. I had so much to learn.
The Damned are still with us and still touring.
