About nine months after releasing his blistering debut, My Aim is True, Elvis Costello dropped his sophomore record, This Year’s Model. The date was March 17, 1978. Second albums are supposed to be difficult because they’re often rushed. In Elvis’ case, he turned in an all-killer-no-filler record that’s 35 minutes of gold. I love this record so much that I think I have 11 different versions of it on vinyl, cassette, CD, and a variety of reissues.
It’s an essential part of any alt-rock record collection. And this song features some of Elvis’ most acidic lyrics.
