Ongoing History Daily: Real people featured in album cover art, part 1

Back before the streaming era, album cover art was a major thing. We’d spend hours gazing at the artwork of an album in hopes of figuring out what it all meant. Sometimes, real people were used as models.

  • In the case of the Alice in Chains album, Dirt, we see a woman named Mariah O’Brien half-buried in some sands in the desert. She’s now an interior designer in LA.
  • The image of the boy on the cover of Rage Against the Machine’s Evil Empire record is based on a painting of a real person named Ari Meisel. He’s now working as an author.
  • And the two girls on the cover of the Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream album? That’s Ali Laenger and Lysandra Roberts. They’re now grown up with Ali working as a nurse and Roberts in IT.

More next time.
