Famous musicians are always being pitched roles in movies. David Bowie was cast in all kinds of roles. Flea has been in a ton of films from Back to the Future to The Big Lebowski. Jack White has had his share of acting gigs, too. Others have been offered movie gigs but turned them down.
Ozzy Osbourne, for example, was asked to read for Pirates of the Caribbean. Sharon, his wife and manager, didn’t let him do it. They both regret that lost opportunity. Keith Richards ended up in the series.
And Jerry Cantrell wishes he had agreed to appear in Almost Famous. He’d already shown up in Singles, another Cameron Crow movie, and can also be seen in Jerry Maguire. But when he had a chance to be the bass player in Stillwater, the fictional band in Almost Famous. Touring commitments got in the way and he just couldn’t swing it. And he still feels bad that he couldn’t.
