Ongoing History Daily: The longest-running modern music festival EVER!

Running a music festival is hard. The logistics and economics and SO complicated that it’s a wonder any promoter manages to stage one. Some are very, very good at staging festivals. So here’s a question: What is the longest-running modern music festival currently in existence? Don’t say Glastonbury, although that’s an excellent guess.

The answer is Pinkpop an annual event held in Landgraaf in The Netherlands. It began in 1970, a year before Glastonbury. And although it’s an annual music festival, it is held on a different date each year. Pinkpop always happens on Pentecost weekend, which occurs 50 days after Easter Sunday. Because Easter doesn’t have a fixed date, neither does Pentecost.

All we can say is that Pinkpop will fall somewhere in May and June each year.
