Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is perhaps the most beloved and most quotable of all of John Hughes’ movies. But here’s a question: why is there no official soundtrack from the film? Bueller? Bueller?
The short answer is that much to the frustration of the studio and A&M, the label with the rights to the soundtrack, Hughes didn’t want to release one. He didn’t think anyone would like it—and he stood firm. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some kind of Ferris Bueller record.
Hughes spent two years sending out a 7-inch single to 100,000 members of his fan club that featured two songs from the movie, one from a group called Flowerpot Man and the other from a band called Blue Room. These things are pretty rare, but I’ve seen them for sale online for about forty bucks.
