Ongoing History Daily: Why go from being the drummer for The Clash to a chiropractor?

Terry Chimes has led an interesting life. Forty years ago, he replaced Topper Headon as the drummer in The Clash. After Topper came back, Terry went on to play with Generation X, Hanoi Rocks, and even Black Sabbath. However, in 1994, he abandoned music entirely and became a chiropractor.

He originally wanted to be a vet but quickly determined that he didn’t have the heart to deal with sick animals all the time. Becoming a chiropractor made more sense because of his lifestyle and attitude toward health. The thing that did it was a shoulder injury from ten-pin bowling during his Sabbath years. A chiropractor fixed him up, and he thought, “I’ll have more of that, then.”

Musicians are referred to his clinic in Essex all the time.
