The rider is the part of a performance contract between an artist and the promoter about what needs to be provided on the day of the show. This includes what the artist requires in the dressing room before and after the show.
The Ramones were extremely reasonable in this regard. A rider from the 80s lists the following:
- 18 full sized terry cloth towels
- Two quarts of freshly squeezed orange juice
- One quart of fresh milk
- Two six packs of either Coke or Pepsi
- A selection of chocolate bars
- Chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies (Pepperidge Farm only, please)
- A tray of assorted fresh fruit
- Two bars of soap,
- Two large cheese pizzas to be delivered 90 minutes before showtime.
- The only alcohol requested was one case of bottled beer.
Pretty wholesome for a touring punk band, right?
