There are all kinds of gimmicks when it comes to getting us to buy physical music media. Artists and labels need ways to convince us to spend the extra money on buying CDs, vinyl, or whatever instead of just streaming their music. This could be the weirdest hook I’ve heard yet.
A few years ago, a member of a muckraking band called Negativland saw original member Don Joyce die. After he passed away, the band offered pre-orders of its new album, Volume 9, through their website. Those who made the purchase received two grams of the cremated remains of Donald S. Joyce.
This wasn’t a hoax. Fans got actual ashes with their album. I guess that was one way to have them spread, right?
