As the Oasis reunion tour rolls on, one person who can only sit at home at watch longingly is original drummer Tony McCarroll. He was with Rain, the band that would become Oasis when Noel Gallagher joined, and he was the drummer for the first Oasis album, as well as a couple of songs after that. But then Noel fired him just as the group was starting on (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. Why?
Most accounts say that Noel just didn’t feel Tony’s skills were up to snuff. But Tony has a different version.
He says that Oasis was in Paris and Tony’s hotel room was next to Noel’s. That night, Tony had an argument with a girl. At soundcheck the next day, Noel told Tony, “You keep me away again, you’re getting sacked.” Tony fired back at Noel—hard, telling him to never speak to him like that again. This, apparently, made him a marked man, and within a few weeks, he was out.
That was 1995. He hasn’t spoken to Noel since.
