Ongoing History Daily: Rock stars checking into hotels

Rock stars spend a lot of time on the road, which means a lot of hotel stays. And just like everyone else, they have to sign in. Some like to have a little fun with the desk clerk.

When Michael Hutchence was touring with INXS, his favourite hotel name was “Ralph Pounder.” For a while, Elvis Costello used “Mr. Arrow Smith.” For reasons known only to him, Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode favoured the name “Dave Fox” while bandmate Martin Gore used B.L. Zebub. Slash used the old favourite “I.P. Freely.” Michael Jackson would often sign as “Dr. Doolittle.” Ozzy liked “Harry Bollocks.”

And whenever Elton John toured through Japan, he preferred to sign in as “Lillian Lollipop.” On other occasions, he used “Sir Horace Pussy,” “Sir Binky Poodleclip,” and “Bobo Latrine.”
