One of the most spectacular places for a concert anywhere in the universe is at the Pyramids of Giza in Cairo. Over the years, it’s been the site of gigs by The Grateful Dead, Frank Sinatra, Scorpions, Sting, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many others. However, this opportunity may soon come to an end.
The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights has file a lawsuit, alleging that “loud nighttime concerts that employ sound equipment producing high-frequency vibrations capable of destabilizing the ancient stone structures.” The lawsuit also says that “laser lighting systems that do not comply with international standards for illumination at heritage sites.”
In summary, live concerts at the pyramids “pose a serious risk to the structural integrity of the Pyramids” and that they want a suspension of “all concerts and events within the archaeological sanctuary” and setting in motion “immediate protective measures.”
