“‘Start a Band’ – haven’t you already done this?” host Drex teases, nodding to Hollerado’s new album title.
“When we first started a band it wasn’t a decision,” Nixon Boyd says. “It just happened. We grew up on the same street, we were already playing music together, Menno taught me how to play guitar – ”
“I taught you the first four chords,” Menno Versteeg cuts in, before adding another major motivator behind their beginnings: needing a way to get into bars.
This time around, the band has made a conscious choice to make music together, complete with a shockingly responsible list of “grown-up” rules. Like showing up on time to soundcheck with all your gear actually present.
“But isn’t that part of your mystique?” Drex challenges.
“We’re still not ruling anything out,” Boyd replies.
And really, what’s rock ’n’ roll without a few rules waiting to be broken?
