Ongoing History Daily: More touring bands should do this

When a band goes on tour, they travel with a permanent road crew to handle all the important stuff. They will also ask the promoter to hire a certain number of people locally. They deal with things ranging from electricity requirements to driving forklifts to helping with all the heavy lifting. This brings me to Robin Williams.

In his contract ride for every single film or event in which he was involved, the promoter had to hire a specific number of homeless people for local crew duties. It’s estimated that through his entire career, he helped over 1500 people with some decent-paying employment.

Wouldn’t it be cool if more artists (including touring musicians) did something similar?
