The brain and body relationship with music is both mysterious and powerful. Researchers are always finding ways in which music benefits our mental and physical health.
A 2025 Australian study called The ASPREE Longitudinal Study of Older Persons looked at how lifestyle affected the chances of acquiring dementia, including music listening habits. They followed almost 11,000 healthy people who were at least 70 years old and found that those who listened to music every day reduced their risk of developing dementia by 39% compared to those who didn’t.
Although the study didn’t specify what kind of music these people listened to, we can probably extrapolate that any music listening has sensational health benefits when it comes to keeping the mind sharp.
Scientists don’t quite understand how the connection works, so research is ongoing.
