Ongoing History Daily: Kurt Cobain's fingerprints

When Kurt Cobain was a teenager, he wasn’t exactly the model of behavior.  He claimed to live under a bridge while working as a janitor at one of the schools.  He had a number run-ins with the law for petty things like theft and vandalism.

When he was 19, he got drunk and ended up being arrested on some kind of trespassing charge. He was taken to the station, charged with public intoxication, failure to pay outstanding fines and possession.  He was given a mug shot and had his fingerprints taken. That was then.

That fingerprint card went up for auction in 2017 and was valued at up to $8,000 US. How this official legal document managed to escape the clutches of the Washington Department of Police is unknown. And how much that fingerprint card would sell for today is anyone’s guess.
