Ongoing History Daily: I should have kept that record!

My basement is a mess because I never throw anything out. How do I know that what seems to be a piece of junk now won’t end up being some valuable collectible in the future?

Take the case of a party held in Detroit in 1998 to celebrate the release of the second 7-inch single from this new band called the White Stripes.  People at the party were offered one of fifteen copies of “Lafayette Blues,” a 7-inch single that had been lovingly hand-painted. They were sold at the party for $6 each. One of those fifteen records was sold at auction for $18,000–and that was for one painted by the band’s then-record label head.  If anyone were to sell one that was painted by Jack White himself, the price would be MUCH higher.

I wonder if there’s anything like that in my basement….
