True or false: Trent Reznor once appeared in a Michael J. Fox movie. True.
Back in the days when he was an unknown struggling musician in Cleveland, Trent heard that a Hollywood movie being shot in town required a scruffy-looking extra to play some musicians in a crowd scene. The movie was called a 1987 affair entitled Light of Day. And at the time, Trent was playing in a band called the Exotic Birds, and after auditioning, he and a couple of other guys were hired to appear as a fictional group called The Problems.
They’re seen and heard performing a version of a Buddy Holly song called “True Love Ways”–but you can barely hear what’s going on because everyone is obscured by dialogue. The performance didn’t even make the official soundtrack for the film.
