The concept of the band t-shirt has been around for decades. Things really started to take off in the 1970s, thanks to groups like The Grateful Dead. Today, they’re an essential part of the revenue stream for any artist. They might even make you some money, especially if they’re of the vintage variety.
For example, a rare Nirvana t-shirt issued by a now-defunct Canadian company for the release of the “Heart-Shaped Box” single, sold last year to a collector for more than $18,000. And this was for a used shirt.
There are plenty of online brokers specializing in this sort of thing, and they say other hot t-shirts from the 90s include merch from Alice in Chains and Tupac. You might want to have a rummage through the closet or dresser because vintage band t-shirts have never been more collectible—even if they’ve been worn.
