Five Songs You Must Hear This Week (23 Feb 2026)

The last Five Songs You Must Hear list for Friday will leave you entranced, mystified, and a little bewildered. Let’s begin.

1. Twenty One Pilots, Drag Path
Single (Fueled by Ramen)
Recommended If You Like: Cult favourites

Twenty One Pilots are geniuses in giving fans what they don’t realize they want. In addition to all the Easter eggs and carefully scripted backstories to a lot of their albums and songs, they hold back stuff until just the right moment. This is one of those cases. Drag Path was originally a bonus track on a limited-edition expanded version of their Breach album. But that physical record was only available for a single week and not on any of the streaming platforms. That created a new story for the song, one that captivated fans. It’s now back in a slightly different edit to preserve the specialness of the original for everyone who bought that record.

2. Les Shirley, Not My Problem
Single (Independent)
RIYL: Women saving the world of rock

Montreal’s all-female trio Les Shirley has added to their two albums and one EP with this new single, which is a preview of their third album, Hail Mary, which won’t be available until this fall. Not My Problem came together in less than an hour as the group was working out some frustrations and angry. Some of the best songs are born that way, aren’t they? And damn, Canada has some good all-female rock bands.

3. Life of Agony, Don’t You (Forget About Me)
Single (Napalm)
RIYL: Unlikely covers

Originally coming out of Brooklyn in 1989, Life of Agony continues their journey. They haven’t released an album since 2019, but they’re back with this cover of one of the great songs of the 80s. Yes, it’s THAT Breakfast Club song. This is a new live version, but if you want the studio recording, go back to their 1995 album, Ugly.

4. Militarie Gun, Kick
God Save the Gun (Loma Vista Recordings)
RIYL: A good kick in the face

Post-hardcore five-piece Militarie Gun released their second album back in October. It took a bit, but this song has bubbled up in a bunch of different places and, for some reason, wasn’t one of the four advance singles. They were all critical hits, as was the album, but this fifth single is, in my opinion, just killer. If you’re having a bad day, put this song on and scream the chorus at the top of your lungs. You’ll feel great. My favourite song of the month so far.

5. Hillary Duff, Growing Up
Luck..or something (Sugarmouse/Atlantic)
RIYL: Unexpected sort-of covers

Wait. THAT Hillary Duff? Yep. Her latest album came out last Friday (February 20) and features this half-cover/half new song that includes elements of Blink-182’s Dammit along with some slightly different lyrics. And yes, Tom Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and original drummer Scott Raynor are all credited as songwriters.
