In 2006, Amy Lee of Evanescence visited the Toronto Edge studios to talk about the band’s new album, The Open Door. It was the follow-up to a tremendously successful debut album that put the band on the map.
A natural question for the lead singer of a band at that point would be: Have you thought about going solo?
At the time, this wasn’t an option for Amy. She said, “The guys are awesome. We’ve been hanging out a lot recently and talking about it. They’re in it for the long haul, um, I love the guys and I just don’t really see the need for a solo project when I get to do everything in Evanescence. It really is coming from me. Everything that I want to try, everything that inspires me, whatever, it all can fit into our band.”
Since then, Amy has explored a solo career path, but one unlike many other artists. She’s focused on film scores, cover projects, soundtrack songs, collaborations, and even a children’s album. She’s done all of this while staying true to her word and remaining close to Evanescence.
And luckily for us! The band just released Sanctuary, their sixth album, on June 5 and is currently on their 2026 World Tour, their first major headlining tour in several years.
They’re set to perform in Toronto on June 29 and in Montreal on June 30.
