You’ve seen it a thousand times: two people, trapped in a tight space. The walls start closing in. Or, it starts filling with gas. Or, in this case: water. Late Tuesday night, two men were stuck in an elevator. Alone in a commercial building in the Junction, they felt helpless.
Water continued to fill the small enclosure, rising first past their waists and then above their heads. The men were able to stay alive by standing on the elevator railings, pressing their cheeks against the hatch to breathe.
Suddenly, they heard a loud noise: police arrived on the scene and used a crowbar to pry open the elevator, releasing the water and the men about to die by its will.
By Wednesday morning, they were a little jarred. But alive.
