It’s no secret that Dave Grohl has always been a big Led Zeppelin fan. The fact that he was in Them Crooked Vultures with Zep bass player John Paul Jones is nothing short of a dream come true.
Dave told me that a lot of what he learned about playing the drums came from listening to John Bonham on all those old Zeppelin records. If you think back to the fourth Zep album, you’ll know that each member of the band contributed a mystical symbol for the artwork. Bonham came up with a three-circle design. Dave has three copies of that design on his body. The first he did himself with a pen when he was 16. A few years later, he got another one from an unlicensed guy in the Netherlands. The best one is the third, a professional done tat that he bought with his first pay cheque from Nirvana.
He also got a Nintendo and BB gun. Total cost? Four hundred dollars.
