We’re all over the place with this week’s Five Songs You Must Hear, and we might as well start with the freakiest band in the world right now. We’ll end with something that I’m not sure about./
1. Angine de Poitrine, Mata Zylek
Vol. II (Independent)
RIYL: Mystery in music
People ask me what I know about this awesome polka-dotted duo? Well, they’re from Chicoutimi, Quebec. They go by the names Khn de Poitrine (guitars) and Klek de Poitrine. They’ve been around since 2019. They look weird in a very cool way. And they’ve been breaking the internet for most of 2026. Yes, I could dig for the truth behind the band, but why? Isn’t it cool to have a great band that inspires wonder while being mysterious? You damn right. This track from their second album (released back on April 3) is being played as a single by some radio stations.
2. Broken Social Scene, The Call
Remember the Humans (Arts & Crafts)
Recommended If You Like: Toronto’s greatest musical collective
It won’t be much longer before the return of Broken Social Scene with their first new album since Hug of Thunder in 2017. Contributions will come from Feist, Lisa Lobsinger, Hannah Georgas, and pretty much half of the Canadian music indie scene. This will be the latest advance single (of three), meaning that there will be another nine songs to discover.
3. BABYMETAL, from me to u (Major Lazer Remix)
Metal Forth (Capitol Records)
RIYL: Moppet mascot metal
I shall hear no one who dares demean the mighty BABYMETAL. This summer is shaping up to be a big one for BABYMETAL with this new album due on June 26 and a world tour with Halestorm and Violent Vira. The record will feature appearances by Poppy, Slaughter to Prevail, Canada’s Spiritbox, and Tom Morello. It will be fantastic.

4. Evanescence, Who Will You Follow
Sanctuary (BMG)
RIYL: Well, it’s Evanescence, innit?
Amy Lee is almost a quarter-century into her career (I know! Check the calendar. The band first appeared in 2003) and is about to release a record that’s taken three years to make. Much of the record was co-written with Zakk Vervini, who has also worked with Bad Omens, YUNGBLUD, Bring Me the Horizon, and Spiritbox. More contributions came from producer Nick Raskulinecz (Korn, Foo Fighters, Rush). In other words, a lot of money was invested in this record. Let see where it goes.
5. Promptgenix, Emergency Tone
Single (Independent)
RIYL: Whatever the hell this is
The current theory (which is most likely correct) is that this is an AI band. Want evidence? Three album releases in two months. Zero info anywhere on the band or its members. They’re all over social media. They record for a weird record label. And most damning of all, their name is very similar to the name of an AI engine called Promptgenie. Oh, and someone claiming to speak for Promptgenix has surfaced on Reddit. Make of this what you will.
